존재와 부재, 완성과 미완성 사이의 긴장을 다루는 작품이다. 비어 있는 공간과 지워진 층위는 회화가 완결된 결과물이어야 한다는 기대를 유예하며, 풍경과 작가의 개입이 동시에 기록된 이중적 표면을 만든다.
The artwork embodies a tension between presence and absence, where empty spaces and
unfinished nature challenge the notion of completion. The absence of traditionally “finished”
elements resists expectation, rejecting a polished outcome in favor of an open-ended, evolving
surface.
The surface itself becomes double, functioning both as a landscape and as a record of the artist’s
intervention. The movement of the maker—traced in raw materials—reveals a gap between creation
and perception. Romanticized landscapes are disrupted by stark contrasts: black pastel effects,
acting as a method of denial and destruction, erase layers rather than build them. This act of
rejection questions what is considered "finished" and resists assumptions of artistic resolution.
There is a contradiction between isolation and connection—a pink line stands apart from other
elements, disrupting the drawing's internal logic. Wrapping and layering become both acts of
separation and protection, creating an ambiguous relationship between space, material, and
meaning. The layering effect echoes different traditions of painting: while Western art often
emphasizes horizontal compositions, Asian traditions embrace verticality, further complicating the
relationship between the painting’s orientation and its interpretation.
